Dr. Michael Taras: Uses a High-Tech Holistic Approach to Dentistry

As our environment has become increasingly toxic, we’ve seen a corresponding general decline in health, along with an increasing dependence on pharmaceutical drugs. But Dr. Michael Taras sees an upside—a growing awareness and appreciation for holistic approaches that address causes instead of covering symptoms with chemical synthetic drugs.

After graduating from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1988 and getting a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1994, Dr. Taras remembers being in a health food store and hearing holistic health expert Gary Null on his radio program. That moment started his holistic journey and changed his life forever.

After years of informally taking holistic courses, Dr. Taras decided to get a formal holistic education and credentials with a fellowship in the Institute of Natural Dentistry, as well as degrees in nutrition, integrative health and a second doctorate as a naturopathic physician. This, in addition to his years of learning with the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) and American Naturopathic Medical Association (ANMA), led him to develop a protocol for removing toxic mercury fillings safely.

Dr. Taras explains, “Besides chelators and dealing with the toxic mercury vapor, ozone is an important part of a safe mercury removal protocol. When a dentist removes a mercury filling, they typically see the underlying dentin stained black from the heavy metals leaching out of the mercury filling over the years.”

While normal, healthy dentin is yellow in color, the black dentin under a mercury filling contains the same toxic metals that the mercury filling had, Dr. Taras notes. Applying ozone gas to the black dentin oxidizes the toxic heavy metals, rendering them harmless. As a side benefit, the ozone also kills the cavity-causing bacteria in the tooth.

“If ozone gas isn’t used to oxidize the heavy metals in the dentin, the tooth may look pretty with a tooth colored filling but the heavy metals are still there. The blood supply going into the tooth will have access to the toxic metals and will tend to deposit them in the brain and cell walls and affect the myelin sheaths around the axons of the nerves,” he adds. “Without the application of ozone gas, the holistic patient may get frustrated that their depression, brain fog or autoimmune disease doesn’t get any better and may even become worse.”

Dr. Taras also does a mineral and heavy metal evaluation, which is a high-tech holistic test that identifies mineral deficiencies and heavy metal bio-burdens. “Hair analysis, blood and urine provocation tests only measure the minerals and heavy metals in the extra-cellular fluid, and it takes weeks to get the results back from a lab,” he explains. “But our test combines a spectrophotometer with a computer, measures what’s actually inside the cell, and gives us results in seconds.”

Yet another holistic therapy Dr. Taras uses in his office is Pulse PEMF, which stands for pulsed electro-magnetic frequencies. Nikola Tesla found that our cells work as independent electrical circuits, accumulating and holding an electrical charge. The Pulse PEMF technology grew out of those earlier discoveries, and according to Dr. Taras, it is regarded as one of the greatest breakthrough technologies of the last century.

“Pulsing healthy electro-magnetic frequencies into cells increases their pH from acidic to alkaline and increases circulation and oxygenation,” Dr. Taras explains. “The number of mitochondria and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production increases and the cell membrane becomes more porous so minerals and nutrients are able to get into the cell and toxins are able to exit, which detoxes the cell.”

Dr. Taras runs one of the largest family oriented dental practices in the Lehigh Valley offering traditional dental care for both children and adults. Holistic-minded people can get safe mercury filling removal with ozone, mineral and heavy metal testing, and Pulse PEMF therapy. Dr. Taras has 31 years experience and lists his holistic credentials and certifications on his website, DrTarasDENTIST.com.
