Natural Awakenings Lehigh Valley

Welcome to Our June Issue

In talking with Natural Awakenings readers, supporters and advertisers, I often get the question: “What makes you want to publish this magazine?” The simple answer is that I am a true believer in natural health, and that conviction comes from firsthand experience.

In 2003, I hurt my back, and for the first time in my life I was totally incapacitated. The pain subsided with conventional treatments like muscle relaxers and painkillers, but I was still unable to run, bike or be active like I was before.

Then, I visited a naturopath listed in the Austin, Texas, edition of Natural Awakenings. Her 75 minutes of holistic health advice and explaining how the body functions was worth every dollar. For the first time, I understood the source of the injury and approached treatment with the mindset that given the right conditions, the body will heal itself. Twelve years later, I have no back pain.

As Ron White would say, healthy living was not always my “policy”. Growing up in the 1970s, there were plenty of unhealthy, dead-end paths one could take as our freedom-loving society evolved. Falling off a healthy path is very easy given the access to the unhealthy choices available in our communities. This June issue addresses addictions from a holistic perspective. I’m hopeful that a copy of this magazine, and each issue, each month finds its way into the hands of someone that will benefit from the wisdom of those who can help them, just like it did for me 12 years ago. That is the motivation that renews my commitment to publish each month.

With Father’s Day in June, this issue appropriately focuses on Men’s Health. I’m glad to see more and more men grasping the benefits of taking better care of themselves. I have no doubt that this community of health-minded men will continue to grow, because Natural Awakenings is available for everyone who, like me, needs it.

Awakening one community at a time… naturally,
