Welcome to Our February Issue
In stark contrast to what’s likely the coldest month of the year here, we are dedicating this February issue to honoring the warmth and power of friendship and invite you to join us in celebrating Valentine’s Day, along with some dozen countries around the world, by taking time to acknowledge the people in your life who bring you loving care, friendship, joy and happiness.
In this month’s feature article, “The Power of Friendship: It Sustains, Nourishes and Supports Us,” Judith Fertig explores how friendships are not only great contributors to happiness, but can also improve our health, longevity and overall well-being.
I recently reconnected with my best friend from high school that I hadn’t seen in more than 15 years, and it was amazing how stories of our old adventures flowed once we got together. I did realize that I had neglected this friendship and I will now be more conscious about reaching out and getting together more often.
One of my favorite adages as a parent is, “To have a friend, you need to be a friend,” because it does some take effort on our part to sustain friendships. Removing judgment and making ourselves emotionally available is a great start. Our Inspiration department, “Deep Listening,” and the tips in our Green Living department about “Eco-Friendly Dating” provide tools we can use to improve our own friendship potential.
My Valentine’s Day wish is that we all consciously raise our good vibrations by living conscientiously and courageously; together we can create a society that we can whole-heartedly embrace and proudly leave for our descendants. I hope you find inspiration and solutions in these pages. We are here to help you light your fire and rise to new levels of awareness, community and prosperity.
