My thoughts for the month are dedicated to all the fathers of the world:
Dr. Deka Rodger
What is a good father?
A good father makes a huge difference in a child’s life. A good father is a pillar of strength, support and discipline. His work is endless and, oftentimes, thankless. But in the end, it will show in the well-adjusted children he has helped to raise. He loves his children, but he doesn’t let them get away with disrespect, bad manners or getting into any trouble. He strongly disapproves of his children’s misdeeds, using tough love to prove a point. He does this through example and the power of his words.
A good father never lets his children take what they have for granted. From the food on the table to the good education that’s being paid for, a good father will make his children see the value in everything they have. A father wants his children to be the best they can be, and gives them challenges that help them grow as human beings. This means giving them some liberty to face setbacks and resolve conflicts on their own.
A father is harsh, but secretly he is cheering on his children at all times. He might not always tell them how amazing they are, but their friends all know how proud he is of them. There are few things as valuable as a father who will do everything he can, and provide all the tools he has, so his children can become better than he.
A father figure is the prime source of knowledge in the ways of men, and teaches his kids accordingly. From helping around the house to being courageous, a father molds his kids into well-rounded members of society. He especially instructs them in proper etiquette, on honesty, keeping their word, and on being thankful.
Lastly, a good father is also the person his kids turn to when things go wrong, and he illustrates the importance of affection by professing his love for their mother in front of them.
So this Father’s Day, show your dad you appreciate what a great man he is, and make the time to be just as grand.
