Birds, Bees and Bats

Longswamp Township EAC is hosting “Birds, Bees and Bats Too! Why We Need Our Winged Friends,” a free, fun and educational workshop at TEK Park in Breinigsville from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 18.

The workshop will be divided into three sections. The first section will cover birds and will be presented by Steven Saffier from Audubon. He will discuss creating bird habitat/sustainable landscaping, bird identification, the Great Backyard Bird Count and the Bird Town program. Dan Mummert of the PA Game Commission will present the second section on bats. He will discuss the challenges bats face with White Nose Syndrome and what individuals can do to help these misunderstood creatures in their battle. He will also talk about bat basics, how to handle bat conflicts in the home, and conservation efforts. In the third section, James Griesemer of Griesemer Beekeeping will review what we can do for our pollinators and go into the basics of keeping honeybees and our native mason bees, as well as the benefits of both.

TEK Park is located at 9999 Hamilton Blvd, Breinigsville. To attend, RSVP by February 11 to 610-216-7976. Registrations will be confirmed by phone or email. Workshop seating is limited. For more information, visit Longswamp Township EAC on Facebook or visit StartYourChange.org.
