Explore the Art of Bellydance
This summer, Surayyah invites everyone to gain a better understanding of bellydance during a series of workshops on June 3, July 15 and August 19 at East Coast Dance Connection, Whitehall. The series is designed to benefit beginning and advanced bellydance students and enthusiasts. “Traveling and Floor Patterns” will teach dancers how to think outside the box of traditional patterns and moves and better understand how to use their space to enhance stage presence and engage their audience. The “Cane Dance” explores one of the most traditional props used in the dance, and “Intro to Musicality” will give the dancer a fuller understanding of the music’s relationship to movements, style of dance and the use of props.
“My goal is to have all dancers attending walk away with a deeper understanding of this performing art,” says Surayyah. “Traditional bellydance classes teach how to dance, but often do not provide the history and knowledge to know when and why we dance a certain way. When a student gains that understanding they can express music and movement in a way that blends them into a single artistic piece.”
Cost is $30 per workshop or pre-register for all three for $75. East Cost Dance Connection is located at 22 Alta Dr., Whitehall. Call 484-995-6029 to register or visit Surayyah.com.
