Natural Awakenings Lehigh Valley

Rethink the System, Work for Change

The Alliance of Sustainable Communities currently has internship opportunities available for college age students. The internships focus on working toward a more sustainable future in the Lehigh Valley—rethinking the current systems, developing goals and action plans for sustainability, building public awareness of the need to change and creating presentations and resources—both online and in print—to educate community groups and policymakers.

The Alliance and partner organizations work to promote food that supports health for individuals and communities; to reduce vehicle pollution that contributes to the high incidence of asthma; to increase awareness of the dangers of fracking; to end systemic causes of poverty and inequality; and more.

Most Alliance internships can be configured in several different ways to fit the interns’ interests and goals. In general, interns will look at multiple aspects of sustainability (including environmental, health, economic, and social justice considerations); develop or increase their understanding of a whole systems approach; and work with community members or organizations to create change.
