Natural Awakenings Lehigh Valley

Salmon Direct from the Fisherman

How does Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon come to be sold in Eastern Pennsylvania direct from the fisherman? Every summer, Jenn and Steve Kurian, fishermen and owners of Wild for Salmon, in Bloomsburg, fly to Alaska in the pursuit of one of nature’s richest bounties. The Kurians, plus two crewmen, will spend approximately six weeks on their fishing vessel, catching more than one thousand pounds of wild Alaska salmon. The salmon is filleted and frozen in Alaska and shipped by barge to Seattle, then driven to Bloomsburg.

In addition to vacuum-packed fillets and portions, the salmon line has expanded to include feta dill burgers, smoked salmon ravioli, nova style and hickory smoked salmon and more. In recent years, Wild for Salmon has teamed up with fellow fishermen to include a full selection of Alaska’s seafood bounty, including Alaska halibut, sole, cod, crab, prawns and others. The store offers online and in-store purchasing, plus Wild for Salmon products can be found at eight different markets throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania, as well as making deliveries to restaurants and health food stores in that same coverage area.

Wild for Salmon is located at 521 Montour Blvd., Bloomsburg. For more information, call 570-387-0552, email [email protected] or visit WildForSalmon.com.
