TMS Therapy Continues to Lessen Depression
On May 17, Neuronetics, Inc. presented positive results from its study, "Effectiveness of NeuroStar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy in Patients with Major Depressive Disorder with Postpartum Onset," at the American Psychiatric Association 2016 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. The study results demonstrated that for patients treated with NeuroStar TMS Therapy, 73.7 percent achieved remission of their depressive symptoms.
The TMS Center of the Lehigh Valley, under the direction of Paul K. Gross MD, offers non-invasive TMS Therapy which uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the areas of the brain thought to control mood. This FDA-cleared outpatient therapy has helped thousands of people suffering from depression and anxiety.
“We have performed over 2000 treatments with TMS therapy since January 2011 and we have seen improvement in 70 to 75 percent of those patients that received the treatment”, states Dr. Gross. “I have been thrilled with the improvements we have seen in patients that have not responded to traditional medication and talk therapy.
