Holiday Open House and First Day Hike at Jacobsburg

Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center is hosting its annual holiday open house, “Home for the Holidays,” at the Visitor Center from noon to 4 p.m., December 10, featuring crafts, games and refreshments.

The Northampton County Junior Conservation School will be selling kits for different wildlife habitat structures and will help assemble them at the open house. They will also be selling refreshments to benefit the weeklong summer conservation school. Free activities include crafts, story reading, a snow play area and demonstrations of outdoor skills like shelter building.

A guided natural history walk along the Homestead Trail will commence at 12:30 p.m. to the Boulton Historic District where the Jacobsburg Historical Society is hosting Christmas at Boulton for a $5 fee. The return trip at 3 p.m. with a local historian highlights the cultural history along the Henrys Woods Trail. Admission to the open house is free and registration is not required.

First Day Hikes will take place January 1 at Jacobsburg with educators Lauren Forster and Rick Wiltraut for two-mile interpretive walk on moderate terrain to explore the old growth forest of Henry’s Woods and wildlife along the Homestead Trail. The hikes start at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. from the flagpole in front of the Visitor Center at 400 Belfast Road. Participants should bring comfortable hiking shoes, a water bottle and wear layers. Registration is required.

Admission to the open house is free. View and register for community programs at events.dcnr.pa.gov.
