Winterfest Returns to Jim Thorpe

The 26th annual Jim Thorpe Winterfest invites a break from cabin fever with winter train rides, carriage rides, wood and ice carving, family activities, shopping in more than 40 unique shops, live entertainment at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, the famous Jim Thorpe Mug Walk and more on February 17 and 18.

Participants can take their Jim Thorpe mug to participating shops and businesses to fill with hot chocolate, soup, goodies, discount coupons and other treats. Buy the mug online ahead of time for $15 each and pick it up in person at the train station during Winterfest.

Some ice and wood carving demonstrations last forever, while the others last for weeks or only days. One of the favorite things to do during Winterfest is to see the talented artists as they carve special sculptures into ice and wood. Michael and Aya Blaine, of Dream Wood, are master chainsaw carvers.

The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway WinterFest weekend train rides offer a special view this time of year at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. ($14/$9/free under 2).

Purchase tickets in advance at 570-325-8485. For more information, visit JimThorpe.org.
