Kindred Spirits Celebrates Three Years on Black Friday

“It smells good in here,” is the phrase that the owner of Kindred Spirits Books & Gifts has heard most often over the past few years. What began as her dream has become a reality for June Rose, owner and operator of the metaphysical shop on West Water Street, in Hellertown. On November 23, the journey continues as she celebrates three years in business.

A former college instructor, Rose provides her customers with knowledge about the more than 8,000 spiritual items that she carries at Kindred Spirits Books & Gifts. The 672-square-foot space houses spiritual items, including metaphysical books, crystals, incense, tarot cards, greeting cards, jewelry, tapestries, essential oils and many more.

Her own spiritual journey began on June 7, 1996 and, in 1998, Rose visited her first new-age store while living in the Midwest. “I felt like my spirit had come home,” she says.

While stuck in traffic one afternoon in October, 2015, just two months after her mother had passed away, Rose saw a “For Rent” sign on the property and made a decision to call and inquire about it. That phone call began her journey with Kindred Spirits. She recalls the name-storming session she and her friends had and how many names ended up on the cutting room floor. “I consulted with so many people, but when the name came to me, I knew it was just perfect,” Rose says.

“My intention when I first opened was for anyone who came in to leave with more peace than they came in with because I figured that’s what they would share with other people,” Rose explains. And her customers agree there’s just something about the good energy in Kindred Spirits.

Rose also supports her kindred community by hosting weekly events and monthly workshops. Each Sunday morning, Rose hosts her Quiet the Mind group meditation and plays her crystal singing bowl set for twenty minutes. Every third Wednesday of each month, she provides Sacred Symposium, a free monthly potluck dinner where attendees bring a covered dish and discuss various spiritual and metaphysical topics. Sacred Symposiums are just one of the events at her sister site, Sacred Space.

Sacred Space, at 45 West Water Street, is a space Rose shares with three other women: Amy Musser, a medium who does angel card readings; Marianne Cox, an artist who will soon be offering a wide variety of creative workshops; and Eva Stephens, a reiki master who provides energy healing.

In addition to Kindred Spirits and Sacred Space, Rose does tarot readings, kids meditation, workshops, private meditation and personal coaching. She is also available for speaking engagements.

On Black Friday, Kindred Spirits will open for its holiday hours starting at 10 a.m. and hold an Open House from noon to 4:00 p.m. with festive foods, hot beverages and raffle prizes. The following Saturday, she will participate in Small Business Saturday and offer specials and discounts. Kindred Spirits will be open every day in December.
