Help for Chronic Worry and Stress

Meg Deak

Worry much? Stress about everything? Then your brain is in a high, overactive beta state. The presence of beta waves indicates a thinking, alert state – all in all, a good thing, right? Except too much of a good thing can be a problem. We need to be able to shift gears and slow things down to access slower waves. The slower waves help to synchronize different parts of the brain, which is more efficient.

Worry brings us into a higher beta range; we go on high alert, looking for everything that can or could go wrong. When your mind is overactive and you can’t quiet your brain, you lock into a fight or flight stress response. Over time, the stress of being on high alert for imagined danger really takes a toll – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

At Twin Ponds Integrative Health Center, we have technology to help slow and synchronize your brainwave activity as well as bring your body into a deeply relaxed, healing state. Our vibroacoustic chair vibrates the very low frequencies of the sounds you hear, giving you a sonic massage, relaxing your body. The music entrains your brain to slower brainwave states, taking you from high alert to calm and quiet.

To learn more about shifting brainwave states and to experience the magic of sonic massage, join Meg Deak, MCAT, LPC on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 pm for a free lecture and demonstration. Call 610-504-4830 to RSVP.
